Flood in Fargo?
SERVPRO® of Fargo responds to storm damage emergencies throughout the year in Fargo, and we know that our fast response helps to minimize further damage and higher repair bills. Here is some information about avoiding flood damage from The City of Fargo’s website:
· Use the City’s Floodplain Map to examine your potential for flood risk.
· Purchase flood insurance. Most homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover flooding. Allow thirty days for the policy to take effect.
· Make sure your electric panel board is at least 12 inches above the projected flood elevation for your home
· Make sure electric switches and outlets are located above potential floodwaters
· Make sure your washer and dryer and furnace are above potential floodwaters
Make sure your fuel tank is anchored securely to the floor. If you have propane tanks that the propane company owns, you will need to write permission to anchor them.
· Install a floating floor drain plug at the current drain location to prevent any future backup. When the floor drain pipe backs up, the gloat will rise and plug the drain.
· Have a licensed plumber install an interior and exterior sewer system backflow valve
